DELTA STATE GOVERNMENT WARNS MOTORISTS AND STREET TRADERS TO DESIST FROM OBSTRUCTING KOKA AREA IN ASABA

The Delta State Government has issued a strong warning to motorists and street traders operating around the Koka area in Asaba, urging them to stop parking along the roads to load their vehicles and to immediately discontinue all forms of street trading that deface the environment.

The Honorable Commissioner for Transport, Delta State Mr. Onoriode Agofure, represented by the Acting Permanent Secretary of the Directorate of Transport, Engr. Victor Omoniyi led the Inter-Ministerial Committee on a sensitization exercise to address the growing concerns over disorderly activities in the area.

Engr. Omoniyi explained that the State Government has mandated the Committee to ensure that the Koka axis is free from street trading and indiscriminate roadside loading. He emphasized that motorists must utilize only government-recognized parks to load their vehicles, enabling passengers to board safely and in an orderly manner. This, he noted, is part of ongoing efforts to safeguard the environment and uphold the aesthetics of the state capital.

Also speaking during the exercise, the Director of Urban Development in the Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Renewal, Mr. Okoro Godwin—representing his Honorable Commissioner—reiterated the State Government’s displeasure over the misuse of public infrastructure. He stressed that resi

dents must learn to use government properties responsibly.

Mr. Godwin further cautioned motorists against dropping passengers along the road, insisting that designated parks remain the safest locations for boarding and alighting.

The State Government reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a clean, safe, and well-organized environment for all residents and visitors in Asaba.
