The Federal Government has inaugurated a Joint implementation framework Committee to promote 70% indigenous cartoon content in the Nigerian broadcast media content.
Inaugurating the committee in Abuja consisting member drawn from the National Orientation Agency, NOA and the National Broadcasting Commission, NBC, the Director General of the NOA, Mallam Lanre Issa Onilu said the 70% media cartoon content as approved by the Federal Executive Council is meant to propagate Nigerian values and morals.

Mallam Lanre Onilu said cartoons have been seen as veritable attitudinal formative tool yet Nigerian broadcast media content is dominated by foreign content.

He said the NOA hopes to promote positive values through animations and unique characters such as "Captain Excellence" which was presented to the public recently.

The Representative of the National Broadcasting Commission who is also the Director Research, Mrs Stella Erhumnsee said the commission is planning to build support studios for Nigeria-centric content through the animation cartoons.

Mrs Erhumnsee called on the nation's media industry to adhere to NBC regulations as 10% of weekly broadcast content should be allotted to child entertainment content.

The event featured an inaugural meeting where issues on the implementation parameters and broadcast media campaigns were discussed
