2027: Delta APC Pledges Issue-Based Campaign, Warns Against Political Violence
By Spotnews Communications
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State has pledged to conduct an issue-based campaign ahead of the 2027 general elections, warning political actors against violence, inflammatory statements and actions capable of threatening peace and stability in the state.
Chairman of the Media and Publicity Committee of the Delta State APC Campaign Council, Mr Charles Aniagwu, gave the assurance on Monday in Asaba while unveiling members of the committee to journalists.
Aniagwu said the party would focus its campaign on the achievements, policies and programmes of President Bola Tinubu and Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, expressing confidence that their records in office would provide a strong basis for seeking re-election.
He listed other members of the committee as Mr Valentine Onojeguo, Vice Chairman; Hon. Timi Tonye, Secretary; Olorogun Festus Ahon, Sir Kelly Okolugbo and Mr Jackson Ekwugum, all members.
According to Aniagwu, the committee would work closely with journalists to ensure that voters receive accurate and relevant information about APC candidates, their policies and their plans for the state and the country.
He explained that the committee's responsibilities would cover not only the presidential and governorship candidates but also APC candidates contesting seats in the State House of Assembly, House of Representatives and Senate.
“We will stay with the issues,” he said, urging journalists to partner with the committee in communicating the party's message to the electorate.
Aniagwu maintained that the campaign would centre on governance, public welfare and policies aimed at improving the living conditions of Nigerians and Deltans.
He added that members of the committee had the experience required to explain the party's programmes and respond to questions concerning the performance of its candidates.
The APC spokesman, however, cautioned political leaders and their supporters against inflammatory rhetoric that could incite violence, provoke attacks or trigger reprisals during the electioneering period.
He stressed that the state government would not tolerate political violence, irrespective of the political affiliation or status of those involved.
“The governor has warned earlier that nobody is above the law. We will not tolerate violence, irrespective of the divide anybody belongs to,” Aniagwu said.
He also declared that the APC would not engage in electoral malpractice, insisting that the party intended to rely on its performance and present its achievements to voters.
“We will not get involved in rigging elections. We will show our report card,” he said.
Aniagwu urged political actors who believed that any individual or group was violating electoral guidelines to report such cases to the appropriate security agencies rather than resorting to violence or taking the law into their own hands.
“We are not in a jungle republic. If there is anybody carrying out an action you consider not to be in line with the electoral guidelines, that is why we have the security agencies. Report them and let the law take its course,” he said.
He described calls for jungle justice as a threat to peace and stability, urging residents to resist attempts to turn political disagreements into confrontations, particularly at polling units.
The committee chairman reiterated that the APC would remain focused on explaining the policies, reforms and programmes of the Tinubu and Oborevwori administrations, expressing optimism that their performance would convince voters to support the party in 2027.
He called on political leaders, supporters and residents to exercise restraint, respect the law and contribute to peaceful elections in Delta State.
