The Obi of Ubulu-Uno Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Obi Henry Afamefune Kikachukwu, has called on the government at all levels to prioritise the present challenges confronting the people, particularly the deplorable condition of roads linking farming communities in the area.
The traditional ruler made the appeal while speaking with journalists on the state of affairs in Ubulu-Uno Kingdom and its surrounding communities, stressing the need for government to pay greater attention to the immediate needs of the people.
Obi Kikachukwu commended the Delta State Government for its ongoing infrastructural development efforts, particularly the construction of the road leading to his palace. He, however, appealed to the government to ensure the timely completion of the project to ease movement and improve accessibility within the community.
The monarch also expressed appreciation to the state government for approving the construction of the 4.9-kilometre road linking Umuodi, Ubulu-Uno and Abuede, as well as other road projects connecting Ubulu-Uno, Ashama, Egbudu-Akah and Ani-Ugbo, including the Aba-Uno, Ukwu-Oba and Umute roads.
He described the road projects as significant interventions that would improve transportation, stimulate economic activities and enhance the living conditions of residents across the benefiting communities.
However, the traditional ruler urged the government to declare a state of emergency on the roads in the area, noting that the poor condition of the road network had continued to impose serious hardship on residents, farmers and other road users.
According to him, the affected communities are predominantly agrarian, making good road infrastructure essential for transporting agricultural produce from farms to markets and facilitating other economic activities.
He maintained that urgent government intervention would not only reduce the suffering of the people but also boost agricultural productivity, promote rural development and improve the overall economic fortunes of the communities.
Obi Kikachukwu further emphasised that road infrastructure remains a critical requirement for the development of rural communities, urging the government to match its commitment to infrastructural development with prompt execution and completion of approved projects.
Meanwhile, the monarch has called on indigenes, residents and friends of Ubulu-Uno Kingdom to participate actively in the forthcoming Ine Festival, scheduled for November 7.
He described the Ine Festival as an important cultural celebration that brings the people together to give thanks to God for His abundant harvest, blessings and protection throughout the year.
According to him, the festival provides an opportunity for sons and daughters of the kingdom, both at home and in the diaspora, to reunite, celebrate their cultural heritage and strengthen the bonds of unity, love and togetherness.
The royal father noted that the festival remains an important aspect of the kingdom's cultural identity, encouraging the people to embrace and preserve their traditions while promoting peace, unity and community development.
He urged all sons and daughters of Ubulu-Uno to turn out in large numbers to make this year's celebration memorable and successful.
