In a bid to reduce the negative effects of the flood ravaging many communities in the state, the state government has mobilised men and swampbulge to delsilt River Niger tribultries and carnals accros the three senatorial districts in Delta State.
The commissioner for Environment, chief Godspower Asiuhwu who visited the points of desilting at Anwai River,shegede canal at Ughelli,Mosogar and Sapele canals said the state government decided to carry out the action in order to save lives and properties of Deltans.
Chief.Asiuhwu who sympathised with those affected by the flood, said Governor Ifeanyi Okowa led administration would always put the life of its people first before every other priorities.
The commissioner commended the contracting firm handling the for the job done so far and encouraged them to speed up as the flood is still affecting communities.
He called on residents to desist from building on water ways at had also led to the destroctions of innocent victims.
Also speaking,Obi Nduka Elunor, commended the efforts of the ministry of Environment and state government for the timely intervention and promised to always support the works of the state government.
He appealed to his people in Mile five to embrace peace in order for more development opportunities.
At Ughelli, the commissioner for Environment causationed the swamp boggi operator for delayed job saying that what Government is doing was an emergency job and anyone who tries to cause delay would be seen as an enemy of the state.
The commissioner commended the work at Mosogar and Sapele saying that it would go along way to mitigate the effects of the flood.
Some of the community leaders who spoke thanked the commissioner and state government for the rescue mission saying that the intervention would reduce the effects of the flood.
The contracting firm led by Mr. Austin Ariaja commended the state government efforts and promised to do his best in ensuring that the job is to agreed specifications.
