A man, Chief Austin Modebe from Isheagu community narrowly escaped death as a result of land dispute between Ukuoba and Ishiagu communities.
Chief Modebe who received machete cuts all over his body including a deep cut on his left hand and landed at the hospital where he is receiving medical care.
According to Chief Modebe who is also the OZOMA of Isheagu community said it was by God's grace that he escaped from the killers suspected to be from Ukwu-Oba community by the help of some police officers.
He said the land dispute started long ago and on twenty third of October this year Isheagwu community received an invitation from the surveyor General of the state informing them that there was a petition against Isheagu community by Ukwu-Oba community that they encroached on their land.
Chief Modebe said the Surveyor General gave them one month to dialogue and settle the matter and along the line Isheagu community embarked on the survey of their part of the land as agreed to have the accurate information about the land.
According to him they have submitted some documents but needed to have the survey of the land in order to have the accurate information possible about the land.
He said they went to the land and as they were waiting for the Surveyor official to come,suddenly they were attacked by suspected men from Ukwu-Oba community.
Chief Modebe explained that his car was destroyed and vandalised by suspected Ukwu-Oba community as well chased away community youths who were at the scene of incidence while the police men there doing nothing
Chief Modebe said as he was driving down he was blocked and they started macheting and hitting him all round his body.
He said three other people sustained different degrees of injuries and in different hospital where they are receiving treatment.
The respondent said he was surprised because it was the presence of some police officers suspected to be from Nsukwa police Station engaged by Ukwu-Oba community as there was no positive response from them until he was about to be killed before they rushed in.
Chief Modebe called on the state government to wade into the matter and fish out those who attacked him and bring them to book.
