OBOREVWORI MOURNS EX-ASSEMBLY CLERK, COMMISSIONER, DAN OKENYI

Okowa/Council Project Local Government Administration has been identified as an integral part of the nation's democracy in view of their pivotal role in grassroot development. Governor Ifeanyi Okowa stated this in his remarks at the inauguration of Oshimili South Local Government Legislative Complex built by the Obi Kelvin Ezenyili administration at the Council Secretariat in Asaba. Governor Okowa who also inaugurated the rehabilitated Executive Council Chambers in the Secretariat said laws made by the local government legislative arm were necessary for the growth and development of communities. He said his administration had continued to collaborate with local government councils for the overall development of the state. The governor said with the edifice, the legislative arm will know that they have a role in the local government government through chunning out of by-laws that would bring development closer to the grassroots. He congratulated the Oshimili South Council boss for executing the landmark projects and for engaging over 200 environmental marshals to ensure cleanliness of the environment in collaboration with the State Waste Management Board. The Governor who pointed out that Asaba as a capital territory was developing in all areas affirmed that peace was needed for sustainable development. Earlier, Chairman of the Council, Hon. Kelvin Ezenyili said the legislative chamber was conceived and built by the council to provide a conducive working environment for councillors in the local government. Dr. Ezenyili added that the legislative chamber was named after Dr. Maryam Babangida in recognition of the pioneering role she played in the empowerment of rural women in the country. While appreciating the developmental strides of Senator Ifeanyi Okowa across the state, he expressed hope that the Legislative Chamber would enhance the operational efficiency of councillors and their support staff in the discharge of their duties.
