Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has ordered the repudiation of the contract for the reconstruction of Uti Road, Effurun in Uvwie Local Government Area for failure of the contractor to execute the job in line with contractual agreement.
The governor announced this while speaking with newsmen shortly after inspecting the Warri/Uvwie storm water project.
He said it was unacceptable for a contractor handling a road project being one of the route where flood water will be channelled to handle the job with reckless abandon and gave assurance that the project will be given to a competent contractor.
On the storm water project, Governor Okowa commended the two contractors handling Warri South and Uvwie areas for the pace of work and urged them to redouble efforts to meet deadline.
He said the drain which has 6 feet by 2 meters wide was meant to take the high volume of water to discharge points stressing that the project was 80 percent completed.
He said the project on completion will bring to an end the challenge of flood in Warri and Uvwie metropolis each time it rains.
Areas visited by the Governor while inspecting the storm water project include Okere road, airport road, first marine quarters, Fani Kayode Street, Uti street and Alegbo streets which is one of the discharge points.
Governor Okowa was also at the Warri Township Stadium to ascertain the extent of renovation work.
He said the contractor has paid for the chairs and tattern tracks emphasizing that the flood that ravaged the stadium in time past will be channelled into the ongoing drainage project in Warri.
The governor also inaugurated the recently built and furnished lodge for Warri South Council Chairman.
He used the forum to call on council chairmen to give priority attention to environmental sanitation, security, skills development and empowerment of women and youths.
