The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) emphasizes that drug abuse is illegal and harmful to human health.
The State Commander (NDLEA)Barr.Abubaka Wada revealed this while speaking with newsmen in his office at Ogwashi Uku,Delta State,urged youths to avoid drugs, citing numerous arrests, prosecutions and sentences.
He said there was need for effective parenting, as it was the backbone of a healthy society.
Barr.Wada said Parents shape their children's values, beliefs, and behaviors, which in turn, impact the world around them, saying that when parenting fails, the consequences can be catastrophic.
The Commander said failed parenting can take many forms, including neglect, abuse, lack of guidance, and poor role-modeling, stressing that when parents failed to provide a nurturing environment, their children are more likely to develop behavioral problems, emotional issues, and cognitive deficits.
He revealed that one of the most significant consequences of drug abuse was the increase in juvenile delinquency, adding that without proper guidance and supervision, youths are more likely to engage in antisocial behaviors like crime, violence, and substance abuse which puts themselves and others in the community at risk.
Barr.Wada said Delta State command had made progress in drug control with sensitization and counseling of arrested victims.
He complained that some challenges facing (NDLEA) includes the long distance between the main office of (NDLEA)and the state capital Asaba with logistical issues.
The commander said the agency has enforced laws, prosecuted offenders,destroyed and confiscated drugs and substances across the State.
He pointed out Logistical issues, long distances between offices and limited funding hinders effectiveness.
Barr.Wada said despite challenges, the (NDLEA),has secured convictions and continued to educate youths about drug dangers.
He pointed out that Delta State command had been given an award for effective operations, saying that it has encouraged the command to perform better.
The State commander appealed to the state Government to look into the office accommodation matter and other logistics that will assist the command to perform better.
He promised to ensure they do their best.
