The retirees under the Contributory Pension Scheme will not benefit from the new minimum wage package
The Delta State Head of Service, Mr. Reginald Bayoko, revealed this on Sunday during the 14th parly to party for Journalists at the Press Centre of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Asaba
Mr. Bayoko said contributions of retirees under the new scheme were fixed and could only be adjusted by the Pension Fund Managers trading with them.
He, however, explained that the case was different for retirees under the old Defined Benefit Scheme, pointing out that the National Salaries and Wages Commission would compute their consequential adjustment, which the State Governor, Rt. Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, had approved for implementation.
On promotion arrears being paid with the new minimum wage, the HOS maintained that the issue of arrears had been put to rest in the state with the release of N5 .5bn by the state government to settle the backlog after which the MDAs were directed to ensure that officers were promoted as and when due
Mr. Bayoko, however, acknowledged the systemic challenges with the promotion of teachers, but assured that the minimum wage would not affect their promotion arrears
The Head of service said he will be remembered for living a positive and good legacies while stepping out of service.
The chairman NUJ up, Comrade Churchill Oyowe expressed gratitude to the Head of service for attending the programme and urged Journals to do the needful.
