Education: The Key to Success and Nation Building
The member representing Oshimili South Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, Honourable Bridget Anyafulu, has emphasized that education remains the key to success, the foundation for the proper upbringing of children, and the building block of a better nation.
Hon. Anyafulu made this assertion during the first edition of the Prize-Giving Ceremony and Essay Competition for primary and secondary schools, which she organized to promote learning and moral development among pupils.
The event, which took place at the Denis Osadebay University, Asaba attracted students from various schools, officials from the Ministry of Education, parents, friends, and well-wishers, provided an opportunity for children to express their thoughts on parental responsibilities and societal values.
Hon. Anyafulu admonished parents to rediscover their roles in shaping the lives of their children, noting that many have deviated from the sound moral foundation laid by previous generations.
“The roles and values handed down by our forefathers have been discarded into the refuse bin,” she said, calling for a rethinking and revival of proper parental guidance and moral discipline.
She lamented the rising cases of minors engaging in prostitution, drug abuse, and examination malpractice, describing them as symptoms of parental failure. The lawmaker urged parents to retrace their steps and recommit to raising children with strong moral and educational values.
Hon. Anyafulu expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Education, participating schools, parents, and friends who graced the occasion, and announced that preparations for the second edition of the competition were already underway.
In her remarks, the representative of the Ministry of Education, Mrs. Patricia Iniovosa-Okakwu, who serves as the Functioning Permanent Secretary, commended the initiative, describing it as a laudable effort that promotes academic excellence, leadership, and nation building among students.
She emphasized that education remains the foundation of progress, noting that investing in the minds of children is an investment in the brighter future of Delta State and the nation.
Mrs. Okakwu congratulated all participants—especially the prize winners—for their hard work and dedication, describing them as the pride of their schools and the hope for tomorrow.
