In a bide to marked a significant step towards achieving a cleaner and healthier environment in Delta State a key stakeholders converged for a high-level environmental stakeholders’ meeting in Oshimili South Local Government Area. The meeting brought together the Executive Chairman of Oshimili South LGA, Hon. High Chief Ezenyili Kelvin Obi, PhD, popularly known as EKO, alongside the Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Jamani Tommy Ejiro, and the Executive Assistant to the Governor on Beautification, Chief Emmanuel Okpomo.
Also in attendance were representatives of the Director-General, Capital Territory Development, officials from waste management boards, supervisory councillors of Oshimili South LGA, and friends of the council. The gathering served as a strategic forum to deliberate on effective ways all agencies and parastatals can join forces to ensure a cleaner Asaba, the state capital, and Delta State as a whole.
In his address, Hon. High Chief Ezenyili Kelvin Obi, PhD (EKO), emphasized that environmental sanitation and sustainability require collective action and strong collaboration among all relevant stakeholders. He noted that Oshimili South LGA is fully committed to supporting policies and initiatives that promote proper waste management, sanitation enforcement, and urban renewal. According to him, a clean environment is vital for public health, economic growth, and the overall image of the state capital.
The Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Jamani Tommy Ejiro, reaffirmed the Delta State Government’s determination to strengthen inter-agency cooperation, stressing that environmental challenges can only be effectively tackled through unity of purpose. Chief Emmanuel Okpomo also highlighted the need for coordinated beautification efforts to complement waste management initiatives across Asaba and other parts of the state.
After extensive deliberations and contributions from stakeholders, the meeting was adjourned to a later date, with an agreement that another meeting will be rescheduled to further harmonize strategies and finalize actionable steps. Participants departed with a renewed commitment to sustained collaboration, follow-up engagements, and practical actions toward maintaining a clean, healthy, and attractive Delta State, starting from the state capital, Asaba.
