The Delta State Waste Management Board, in collaboration with Private Sector Participants (PSPs), Isoko Branch, has carried out a comprehensive clean-up and maintenance exercise at the Ozoro dumpsite as part of renewed efforts to promote environmental sanitation and public health across the state.

The exercise, which drew participation from environmental officials and waste contractors, focused on clearing accumulated refuse, evacuating waste heaps, and improving access within the dumpsite.

Chairman of the Board, Hon. Matthew Mofe Edema, said the initiative underscores the Board’s commitment to ensuring a cleaner and healthier Delta State noting that the clean-up operation was strategically carried out to strengthen waste management practices, particularly in view of the approaching rainy season.
“This exercise is part of our proactive measures to guarantee a healthy environment for our people. Effective waste management is not optional; it is essential for sustainable development,” Edema stated.

He further explained that the collaboration with PSP operators reflects the government’s inclusive approach in tackling sanitation challenges.

According to him, “The Private Sector Participants remain critical partners in our drive to keep Delta clean. By working together, we are able to respond swiftly to environmental concerns and maintain our dumpsites in line with acceptable standards.”

The Member representing Delta South on the Board, Chief (Mrs.) Juliet Enifome Ethe, emphasized the importance of proper waste disposal habits among residents.

She urged communities in Ozoro and its environs to complement government efforts by adhering to approved waste disposal channels. “As the rains begin to set in, indiscriminate dumping of refuse can lead to blocked drainage systems and outbreak of diseases. We must all take responsibility for the cleanliness of our environment,” she cautioned.

Supervisor of the exercise, Mrs Mary Ogodo also commended the PSP operators in Isoko for their dedication and responsiveness, describing them as dependable partners in environmental management.

She noted that regular monitoring and maintenance of dumpsites would continue to ensure operational efficiency and environmental safety. “This is not a one-off activity. We are committed to sustained action that will improve waste evacuation and environmental hygiene across Delta South and beyond,” she added.

The clean-up at Ozoro dumpsite is part of the broader strategy of the Delta State Waste Management Board to build a resilient waste management system and safeguard
