The inauguration ceremony, which attracted key stakeholders in the waste management sector, was conducted under the supervision of Comrade Paul Onodjakpo.
Leading the newly inaugurated executive is Comrade John Chikoma. Performing the inauguration, the State Chairman of the Delta State Waste Management Board, Mr. Mofe Edema, congratulated the executive members on their successful election and subsequent inauguration.
He described their emergence as a demonstration of confidence reposed in them by members of the association.
Mr. Edema urged the new leadership to build on the achievements of their predecessors and strive to take the association to greater heights. According to him, having observed and learned from past administrations, members of the association would be expecting improved performance, stronger coordination, and innovative strategies to enhance waste management operations.
He assured the executive of the Board’s readiness to work closely with them to ensure a more effective and efficient PSP system in Delta State, stressing that collaboration remains key to achieving cleaner and healthier communities.
Also speaking at the event, the member representing Delta North, Mr. Cosmas Igbenije, commended the PSP operators for their resilience and dedication to duty despite operational challenges.
He noted that waste managers play a critical role in environmental sanitation and public health, urging the new executive to intensify efforts in service delivery.
Mr. Igbenije advised the association to maintain cordial relationships with residents, emphasizing that cooperation between service providers and the public is essential for achieving sustainable waste management results. He further called on members of the association to give maximum support to the new executive to enable them succeed.
In his remarks during the handover ceremony, the outgoing Chairman, Comrade Samson Osuere, expressed profound gratitude to members for the opportunity to serve and lead the association over the years.
He appreciated the encouragement and support received from the Waste Management Board throughout his tenure and encouraged the new leadership to be inclusive and carry all members along in decision-making processes.
The State Secretary of the Association of Waste Managers, Delta State, Comrade Maxwell Egbe, also congratulated the newly inaugurated executive.
He urged them to demonstrate diligence, unity, and teamwork in discharging their responsibilities, noting that collective effort would drive the association to greater accomplishments.
He appealed to the Waste Management Board to liaise with the Delta State Government to proactively address challenges commonly experienced during the rainy season, particularly issues affecting waste evacuation and road access.
Additionally, Comrade Egbe called on the government to facilitate access to loans for PSP operators, assuring that beneficiaries would repay accordingly to strengthen operational capacity.
The event concluded with renewed optimism among members, who expressed confidence that the new executive would reposition the association for enhanced service delivery and stronger collaboration with relevant stakeholders in Delta State.
