Delta APC Elects Solomon Arenyeka as Chairman, Oborevwori Rallies Party for 2027 Victory
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State has elected Chief Solomon Arenyeka as its new State Chairman, as Governor Sheriff Oborevwori charged the newly inaugurated State Working Committee (SWC) to immediately begin mobilization for a sweeping victory in the 2027 general elections.
Arenyeka emerged by consensus during the party’s State Congress held Tuesday at the Cenotaph in Asaba, in what party leaders described as a peaceful and inclusive process reflecting internal democracy.
Also elected by consensus were Elder Moses Iduh as Deputy Chairman and Chief Efe Uko as State Secretary. Other members of the new executive include Chief Paulinus Akpeki (Delta Central Chairman), Chief Emmanuel Amgbaduba (Delta South Chairman), Engr. Daniel Ossai (Delta North Chairman), Elder Emmanuel Egbabor (State Organising Secretary), Barr. Valentine Onojeghuo (State Publicity Secretary), Mrs. Ifeyinwa Sobotie (State Woman Leader) and Christopher Agali (State Youth Leader), among others.
Chairman of the State Congress Electoral Committee, Engr. Vita Abba, declared the executive duly elected following affirmation by delegates, stating that the process strictly adhered to the party’s constitution and established guidelines.
Earlier, former Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Victor Ochei, moved a motion for the dissolution of the outgoing State Working Committee to pave the way for the emergence of new leadership. The motion, seconded by Olorogun O’tega Emerhor, received unanimous approval from delegates.
Oborevwori: “Our Mission Is Total Victory”
Addressing party faithful, Governor Oborevwori expressed appreciation to the outgoing executive led by Elder Omeni Sobotie for what he described as steady leadership during a defining transition period following the April 2025 political realignment in the state.
“I stand before you today filled with a deep sense of responsibility and optimism about the bright prospects of our great party,” the governor said. “What began as a principled decision to align Delta State with the renewed vision of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has evolved into a powerful and unstoppable political movement.”
He commended members for their discipline and cooperation, noting that the peaceful conduct of congresses across the 270 wards, 25 local government areas and the state level demonstrated the APC’s commitment to transparency and inclusiveness.
“There was no imposition. What we witnessed was consultation, agreement and collective ownership,” he stated.
The governor tasked the new executive with strengthening grassroots engagement, holding regular strategy meetings and intensifying voter mobilization efforts ahead of 2027.
“Our mission is unequivocal. We must secure victory at every level — the Presidency, Senate, House of Representatives, Governorship and the State House of Assembly,” Oborevwori declared confidently.
Unity, Humility and Responsibility
In his remarks, outgoing State Chairman, Elder Omeni Sobotie, described the congress as a triumph of unity and sacrifice, emphasizing collective interest over personal ambition.
“In politics, what we have is not ‘I’ but ‘we.’ The interest of the people must always come first,” he said, urging the new leadership to embrace humility. “Ability may take a man to the top, but humility keeps him there.”
In his acceptance speech, Arenyeka expressed gratitude for the confidence reposed in him and pledged to justify the trust placed in the new executive.
“We are fully aware of the weight of this responsibility. We consider it a privilege to serve and we pledge to uphold the values of integrity, transparency and teamwork,” he said.
He assured members that under his leadership, the Delta APC would consolidate its internal cohesion and position itself as a model for other states.
“We have received our marching orders. By God’s grace, we shall deliver all APC candidates in the 2027 elections,” Arenyeka affirmed.
The congress attracted party leaders and stakeholders from across Delta State, ending on a note of celebration and renewed determination as the APC formally positioned itself for the next electoral cycle.
