Director-General of NOA, Lanre Issa-Onilu, disclosed this while receiving a delegation from the NSCC, stressing the need to strengthen support systems for elderly citizens in line with global best practices. He noted that protecting the dignity and wellbeing of older persons is a collective responsibility that should be embraced by all.
Issa-Onilu also commended the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) for introducing special provisions for senior citizens at airports, urging other institutions and sectors across the country to adopt similar initiatives that will make life easier for elderly Nigerians.
Earlier, the Director-General of NSCC, Omobolanle Akinyemi, said the visit was aimed at building a strategic partnership with the NOA to leverage the agency’s wide communication platforms in promoting the rights of senior citizens in Nigeria’s diverse languages.
She explained that senior citizens value being heard and included in societal affairs, adding that providing them with accurate and relevant information about issues affecting their lives will empower them to assert their rights and remain active and respected members of society. The meeting ended with the presentation of a plaque bearing the core values of the National Values Charter to the NSCC Director-General.
