Members of the Private Sector Participants (PSP) in waste management, Asaba Chapter, have carried out a comprehensive environmental sanitation exercise at the revered Asagba’s Palace in Asaba, Delta State.
The exercise, which took place on Friday,20th March ,2026 was aimed at promoting environmental cleanliness and demonstrating the group’s commitment to public health and community development.
The clean-up operation was supervised by the President, Comrade John Chikoma,Vice Chairman of the PSP, Comrade Douglas Okolo, alongside the Financial Secretary, Comrade Theophilus Ugwu and Secretary Comrade Adeniyi Osawaru.
The team cleared overgrown weeds and debris surrounding the palace premises, restoring the area to a more hygienic and aesthetically pleasing condition.
Speaking during the exercise, Comrade Okolo explained that the initiative was part of the association’s responsibility to lead by example and contribute meaningfully to environmental sanitation in the state.
He noted that maintaining a clean environment is a collective duty that requires active participation from all residents.
Similarly, Comrade Ugwu emphasized that the exercise underscores the PSP’s dedication to supporting government efforts in waste management and ensuring a healthier environment for citizens.
The PSP leaders also commended the State Chairman of the Waste Management Board, Pastor Mathew Mofe Edema, for his proactive leadership and continuous encouragement, which they said has motivated PSP operators across the state to remain committed to their duties.
They used the opportunity to call on residents of Asaba and its environs to take greater responsibility for their surroundings by maintaining proper hygiene practices. They further urged households and business owners to register with PSP operators to ensure the regular evacuation of refuse and prevent environmental hazards.
The sanitation exercise, according to observers, reflects a growing awareness among stakeholders about the importance of environmental sustainability and community-driven efforts in waste management.
