The National Orientation Agency (NOA) reaffirms it's commitment in Promoting mental health awareness as part of its work in promoting civic awareness and public reorientation in Nigeria.
The Director General of the Agency, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu stated this, when he received a delegation of *" *She Writes Woman Mental Health Initiative* ,"* led by its Founder, Hauwa Ojeifo. A non governmental organization, focuses on advocacy for public awareness on suicide prevention and mental health support.
The NOA's DG was represented by the Director, Health and Social Care, Dr. Femi Ayoola, he highlighted the urgent need in addressing stigmatization on mental health and psycho-disabilities, in the country, noting that, the issues are often misunderstood or overlooked. He acknowledged the commitment of the agency for working harmoniously in addressing mental health issues as remains under-prioritised in Nigeria.
He also, highlighted the NOA’s role in promoting national awareness and shaping public orientation through targeted communications channels, across all 774 local government areas, of 36 states of the federation, including the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
On their part, *"She Writes Woman initiatives"* is a female-led NGO with over a decade of impact, which the founder said, works in three key areas; which includes, documenting lived experiences to advocate against unfair treatment, providing care through 24/7 toll-free tele-therapy helpline, and organizing capacity-building programmes in supporting affected individuals.
The visit concluded with a commitment from the Agency to collaborate with *"She Writes Woman"* in strengthening public awareness, reducing stigmatization, and expanding access to mental health support across the country.
