Elumelu Records Landslide Victory in Oshimili South as APC Concludes Reps Primaries
Former Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Ndudi Elumelu, has secured a decisive victory in the All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives primary election held in Oshimili South Local Government Area of Delta State.
The exercise, conducted across wards in Asaba, witnessed a peaceful and orderly process, with party members turning out in large numbers to participate.
Elumelu overwhelmingly defeated the incumbent lawmaker, Ngozi Okolie, in what observers described as a one-sided contest. Reports from monitored wards, including Wards 5, 9, and 11, indicated that the exercise was calm, transparent, and well-coordinated.
Voting was restricted to accredited members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), ensuring compliance with party guidelines. Across the wards, Elumelu maintained a commanding lead, while Okolie struggled to gain traction.
In Ward 11, Elumelu polled over 1,000 votes, while Okolie recorded no votes, according to party officials.
Speaking after the collation of results in Ward 9, the Returning Officer, Engr. Kingsley Adigwu Oniawa, commended the process, describing it as peaceful and credible.
“There was no issue. The process was calm and transparent, and the outcome reflects the will of the people,” he stated.
Party stakeholders also praised the high voter turnout and discipline displayed by members.
Hon. Sunday Obi, Executive Assistant to the Governor on Community Development, attributed the strong participation to effective mobilisation, noting that Elumelu’s performance reflects his grassroots popularity.
He revealed that the former lawmaker secured over 1,800 votes in Ward 9 alone, positioning him strongly ahead of the general election.
Obi further credited the growing support for the party in the area to the leadership style of Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, whom he described as inclusive and peace-driven.
Ward 9 APC Chairman, Ngoziame Baze, also confirmed that the election adhered strictly to electoral guidelines, with only verified party members allowed to vote, and officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) present to monitor the process.
Similarly, a party stakeholder in Ward 11, George Nwanem Ogoliegbunam, described the outcome as a true reflection of Elumelu’s widespread support.
Reacting to the development, former Oshimili South Local Government Chairman, Hon. Izuka Okolo, described the turnout as impressive and expressed confidence in the party’s chances in the forthcoming general elections.
“With the success of these primaries, we are moving straight into grassroots mobilisation. The party is well-positioned for victory,” he said.
The successful conduct of the primaries is widely seen as a boost for the APC’s preparations ahead of the next electoral phase in Delta State.
