The federal government of Nigeria through the ministry of education has approved the exemption of Candidates seeking admission into colleges of education for NCE programme for writing Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
The Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, announced this recently. He noted that, candidates with at least four credit passes in some relevant subjects on their o'level results can apply directly to any colleges of education in country without writing (UTME).
However, such candidates must register with Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), for the screening and verifying of the prospective candidates credentials before issuance of the admission letters through the Central Admissions Processing System (CAPS).
This initiative was introduced to increase more access to teacher education, especially for students in local communities, while reducing the pressure associated with UTME.
The exemption is also extended to some National Diploma programmes in non-technology agricultural and agriculture-related courses.
The policy is expected to take effect next year 2027 Academic Session, which was designed to address the growing number of out-of-school youths and encourages more people to study education and agricultural related course, as federal government Reaffirms it's commitment to value some essential sectors considered vital to national development.
