The Director General, National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, has joined Nigerians in celebrating 2026 workers Day Celebration across the country, describing the celebration as the backbone of national development and key drivers of the nation’s progress.
This was contained in the DG's 1st Day of May, 2026, Worker's Day message to Nigerians.
He said, this occasion provides a valuable opportunity to reflect on the dignity of labour and the essential role of workers in nation-building, noting that; their daily sacrifices continue to sustain the Nigerian economy.
Onilu, commended the resilience, dedication, cohesion and unwavering commitment of workers in both the public and private sectors, stressing that; their contributions remain central to national growth and development despite prevailing economic and social challenges.
According to him, Nigeria is currently at a critical stage of development journey, where achieving sustainable prosperity requires increased productivity, discipline, and a renewed commitment to excellence from all citizens.
Issa-Onilu, also called on Nigerian's workers to rededicate themselves in valuwing hard work, integrity, and professionalism, for nation building. He added that, these principles are not only vital for individual success but also for collective national advancement.
He reaffirmed the position of the Agency in promoting truth national transformation with a positive change in mindset, urging citizens to embrace a culture that rewards diligence, innovation, and accountability.
The DG further encouraged Nigerians to reject all forms of indolence, corruption, and inefficiency, which he said continue to hinder development and slow down national progress across key sectors.
He expressed optimism about the country’s future, noting that, the government's commitment in Renewed Hope Agenda will reflect in ongoing efforts to improve welfare, strengthen institutions, and create more conducive environment for productivity.
