Emetulu Warns Ndokwa Youths Against Vandalism, Calls for Protection of Public Assets
The member representing Ndokwa West Constituency in the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Charles Emetulu, has urged youths across Ndokwa Nation to refrain from vandalising government facilities, stressing that such acts hinder development and deprive communities of critical public infrastructure.
Emetulu made the call on Thursday while receiving members of the Ndokwa Media Professionals Forum, where he emphasized that safeguarding public assets is a shared responsibility that requires the active involvement of community leaders, traditional institutions, youths and other stakeholders.
The lawmaker, who also chairs the House Committee on Education, expressed concern over the destruction of government facilities in some communities, noting that public infrastructure is provided to improve the living standards of citizens and should be protected rather than destroyed.
"Government does not provide infrastructure for itself. These facilities are put in place for the benefit of our people, and it is therefore wrong for anyone to vandalise or destroy them," he said.
He called on traditional rulers, community leaders and other stakeholders to take deliberate steps to ensure that public assets within their communities are adequately protected, adding that safeguarding government investments would encourage more development projects and attract greater government presence.
According to him, the responsibility of protecting public infrastructure should not be left to security agencies alone, as residents and community leaders also have critical roles to play.
"The responsibility of securing government facilities is a collective one. Our youths should channel their energies into productive ventures instead of engaging in acts that are detrimental to the growth and development of our communities," Emetulu stated.
He reaffirmed his commitment to the continued development of Ndokwa West Constituency and the wider Ndokwa Nation, assuring residents that efforts would remain focused on improving their welfare and expanding access to development projects.
Emetulu also commended members of the Ndokwa Media Professionals Forum for promoting responsible journalism and giving visibility to issues affecting the people of Ndokwa Nation.
"I appreciate the role being played by members of the Ndokwa Media Professionals Forum in projecting issues that affect our people and promoting development in Ndokwa Nation," he added.
Earlier, the Chairman of the Ndokwa Media Professionals Forum, Hon. Barth Ineh-Ozah, thanked the lawmaker for hosting members of the forum and for his continued support towards the growth of the association.
He said the forum remains committed to promoting professionalism, ethical journalism and constructive engagement on issues affecting Ndokwa Nation, adding that it would continue to champion objective reporting, advocacy and initiatives that foster peace, unity and sustainable development across the area.
