Bel Dialogue 2026: Mike Igini to Chair Public Policy Conversation on Democracy, Accountability
ASABA – Bel Media Consult Limited, publishers of Ndokwa Reporters and The Brief, has announced the second edition of its flagship public policy engagement platform, Bel Dialogue, with former Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Mike Igini, named Chairman of the Occasion.
The event will take place on Thursday, July 30, 2026, at David's Event Centre, Anwai Road, Asaba, beginning at 11:00 a.m.
The 2026 edition is themed "Democracy That Works: Bridging the Gap Between Votes, Results and Institutional Accountability," a topic the organisers say reflects the urgent need to strengthen democratic institutions, promote accountable governance and rebuild public confidence in Nigeria's electoral and governance systems.
Bel Dialogue is an annual, non-partisan initiative of Bel Media Consult Limited designed to foster informed discussions on governance, public policy, leadership and national development. It brings together policymakers, professionals, civil society organisations, academics, traditional institutions, the media and citizens to examine critical national issues and explore practical solutions.
According to the organisers, this year's edition builds on the success of the maiden Bel Dialogue, which established the platform as a credible forum for civic engagement and policy discussions. The 2026 programme is expected to feature broader participation and more interactive sessions aimed at generating ideas to strengthen democracy and improve institutional accountability.
Announcing the event on behalf of the Chairman of the Advisory Board, Pharm. Paul O. Enebeli, the Secretary of the Advisory Board and Executive Director of Bel Dialogue, Emmanuel Enebeli, said the choice of Igini as Chairman of the Occasion underscores the organisers' commitment to credibility, excellence and democratic values.
He described Igini as a respected electoral administrator whose distinguished service at INEC earned him national recognition for conducting transparent, credible and professionally managed elections.
"His unwavering commitment to electoral integrity, the rule of law and democratic accountability has earned him widespread respect across Nigeria and beyond. His wealth of experience and principled leadership make him an ideal Chairman for a dialogue focused on strengthening democratic institutions and ensuring that the people's votes truly count," Enebeli said.
He explained that Bel Dialogue departs from the traditional lecture format by providing a participatory platform where experts, stakeholders and members of the public engage in open, solution-driven conversations on governance and national development.
Enebeli added that preparations for the event are in the final stages, noting that the names of the moderator, discussants and other distinguished participants will be unveiled in the coming days.
He called on public office holders, lawmakers, political leaders, professionals, academics, civil society organisations, traditional rulers, youth groups, the organised private sector, the media and interested Nigerians to participate in the dialogue.
