Nigeria @66: NOA Urges Citizens to Uphold Unity, Peace
The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has called on Nigerians to strengthen national unity, peace and responsible citizenship as the country marks its 66th Independence Anniversary.
NOA Director-General, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, in his anniversary message, said Nigeria’s independence provided citizens with the opportunity to determine their own destiny and contribute to national development.
He urged Nigerians to protect the gains of independence by supporting development efforts, promoting productivity, respecting national values and contributing positively to their communities.
Ahead of the 2027 general elections, Issa-Onilu appealed to citizens to respect political differences, reject hate speech and violence, and resolve disputes through lawful and democratic processes.
He also called for issue-based political engagement and peaceful coexistence, stressing that political competition should not weaken the bonds that unite Nigerians.
The DG reaffirmed NOA’s commitment to promoting patriotism, national unity, responsible citizenship and accurate information on government policies and programmes.
