Delta State Government has alerted persons that built on water channels across the state that such illegal structures will be brought down as a deliberate measure to stem perennial flooding.
The Director General, Special Duties, Chief Frank Omare stated this while speaking with newsmen at Government House, Asaba.
Chief Omare said no building hampering free flow of water across the state would be spared and advised those occupying such illegal structures to move out of such facilities before government commences the demolition exercise.
He disclosed that any structure without approval from the Ministry of Lands and Surveys would not also be spared, adding that property developers should always ensure that they follow due process.
The Director General who said that he would be firm in the discharge of the responsibility assigned to him by the state governor, affirmed that the action of govenment was not aimed at witch hunting anybody.
Chief Omare stated that it was unfortunate that some persons have turned drainage channels into dump site, stressing that efforts were on to ensure that residents and owners of buildings clear drains in front of their houses.
He said his office was collaborating with all ministries in the total clean up of the state and reminded residents of the state of the need to procure waste bins as a veritable means of putting a stop to indiscriminate dumping of refuse.
He equally enjoined Private Sector Participants PSPs in waste disposal to arm themselves with good vehicles and other logistics needed for effective waste disposal so as to avoid being sanctioned by the state government and called on residents of the state to register with the PSPs.
Chief Omare added that his office had gone round the state in the last two weeks to enlighten Deltans of the need to clear drains in their neighbourhood to avoid flooding in this rainy season.
He solicited the support of all in the removal of illegal strucutres to facilitate free flow of flood water.
