STATE TECHNICAL WORKING COMMITTEE ON GENDER BASED VIOLENCE HAS BEEN INAUGURATED WITH A CHARGE ON MEMBERS TO SELFLESSLY PURSUE THE OBJECTIVE OF THE COMMITTEE.

The State Technical Working Committee on Gender Based Voilence has been inaugurated with a charge on members to selflessly pursue the objective of the committee in  sensitising targeted audience and escalating issues of gender base violence.

The Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Kingsley Emu gave the charge during the inauguration held today at the SSG Complex, Asaba.

The Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Kingsley Emu adviced members of the committee not to serve for financial gain but for the love of humanity and doggedly fight against sexual and gender based violence.

The SSG decried the underreported achievement of the three sexual assaults referral centres, SARC established in the state since November 2022 while calling on the committee to prudently manage resources invested in the committee in bringing issues of sexual and gender based voilence to the barest minimum in the state.

Dr. Emu tasked the committee to put in passion and commitment as they carefully craft messages to targeted audiences in schools, religious centres and rural areas, coordinate the collation of data, and excalate every issue of gender base voilence for speedy legal actions.

The  permanent secretary in the ministry of women affairs who also doubled as the state chairman of the Technical Working Committee, Mrs Oghenekevwe Agas, promised that the

committee would bring their experience on board towards the total eradication of the issue of gender gender based voilence in the state.

According to the Mrs Agas, the Technical working committee on gender based voilence is a mandatory committee to be established by each state of the federation as directed by the Federal Ministry of Women Affairs to collate and input issues of sexual and gender based voilence in Nigeria.

The terms of reference of the committee are:

Cordinate the activities of Gender base voilence team in the state,  excalate gender base voilence incidences, initiate actions to eliminate all forms of gender based voilence and ensure the collation of data of incidences into the national gender based dashboard.

Members of the committee were drawn from ministries, professional, religious and civil society organisations that handles gender base voilence issues.
