The State House of Assembly today resumed sitting after a months recess with the screening and confirmation of nominees whose names where sent to the State Assembly by the State governor as members of the Delta State Local Government Service Commission and the Delta State Independent Electoral Commission.
The Speaker also read two letters sent to the House by the State governor seeking the reconstitution of the governing board of the Delta State Health Contributory Commission and for the approval for an additional Supplementary Budget
The House which dissolved itself into a committee of the Whole in a motion moved by the Majority Leader and seconded by the member representing Aniocha South constituency Honourable Isaac Anwuzia screened as members into the Delta State Local Government Service Commission, Honourable Joseph Otirhue who is to serve as chairman, Anslem Nwokenye 1st member, Dame Minnie Igbrude 2nd member and Philomena Ededey 3rd member.
After being briefly introduced to the House by their various representatives, where asked by the chairman to take a bow.
The House also screened nominees for
the Delta State Independent Electoral Commission where Dr Jerry Agbaike (chairman,) James Umukoro, Friday Seimode, Light Diden, Imasua Azogbulem, Chris Onwuma and Frank Oru. are members.
Resuming his seat as Speaker to report progress in a motion moved by the Majority Leader Honourable Emeka Nwaobi and seconded by the member representing Ughelli North 2 constituency Honourable Spencer Ohwofa, and the Minority Leader Honourable Edafe Emakpor respectively, Honourable Guwor said the nominees haven met the requirements and where dully qualified be confirmed individually in separate motions moved by the Majority Leader and seconded by their various representatives.
Honourable Guwor who congratulated them also charged them to live up to the tasks ahead, putting in their best in all given assignments.
The Speaker also read letters to the House form the State governor where he sought approval for the reconstitution of the governing board of the Delta State Health Contributory Commission where Dr Austin Obidi and Isaac Akpoveta will serve chairman and Director general and also for approval for an additional Supplementary.
The Speaker then asked the nominees to submit their Curriculum Vitae to the office of the Clerk on or before September 11and appear for screening on September 12.
Earlier in a welcome address the Speaker welcomed lawmakers back from recess thanking them for their professional disposition to duty, and urging them not to relent, as the state legislature was poised in ensuring that bills brought before the House were thoroughly debated upon and passed in time for the betterment of Deltans.
The second reading for the Additional Supplementary Bill was deferred to Thursday September 7.
