The Director General National Orientation Agency NOA Malam Lanre Issa Onilu has advocated the need to build a strong Nigerian Identity as the foundation for unity and revival of family values.
Malam Lanre Onilu who made this known while receiving the chief Executive Officer of Baynakum Family Counselling Centre In office said Nigerians are proud of their religious and ethnic affiliations.
He observed that non existence of a well defined societal or national identity had remained a major challenge, nothing that the vacuum created by this trend was the rationale behind the agency's decision to launch Nigerian Identity Project and introduce National Value Charter to inculcate shared Values in citizens .
According to him , family unit cannot flourish in isolation but must be supported by societal structures.
He advocated deliberate efforts to ensure a new generation of Nigerians ,whom he described as not only good Yoruba,Igbo ,Hausa , Muslim or Christian, but are also good citizens guided by clearly defined values, assuring Baynakum of NOA's willingness to collaborate with it on initiatives promoting family and societal re-orientation .
In their separate responses ,the Chairman Baynakum's Dr. Abdurazaq Adio and CEO Adeyemi reaffirmed the centre's commitment to strengthening family and values and youth development across Nigeria and beyond.
