NOA join forces with the Benue state government to strengthen public enlistment.
The National Orientation Agency NOA has joined forces with the Benue State Ministry of Information and Orientation to strengthen public enlightenment and promote the core values embedded in the National Values Charter.
Receiving the delegation from the Benue State Ministry of Information, led by the Honourable Commissioner, the Director General of the NOA, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, underscored the critical role of information in nation-building, emphasising that timely and accurate communication is key in driving value re-orientation, social cohesion and national development.
Issa-Onilu disclosed that the Agency's Planning, Research, and Strategy Department will be revitalised to enhance its effectiveness, saying that responses and feedback gathered from citizens across each state will be systematically compiled and shared with the respective state governments, local government authorities, and the Speakers of the State Houses of Assembly.
This, he noted, is to ensure that the voices of the people inform policy decisions and governance at all levels.
He also explained that the Nigerian Identity Project emerged from the need to clearly define the roles of both leaders and citizens, stressing that this formed the basis for the National Values Charter, which includes the Nigerian Promise, Citizen Codes, and Institutionalisation Policies.
In response, the Benue State Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dr Peter Oboh Egbodo, commended the NOA for its consistent efforts in promoting national unity, patriotism, and responsible citizenship, adding that Benue State shares similar objectives through its ongoing campaigns on public awareness, moral revival and community participation in governance.
Dr Egbodo revealed that the Ministry is planning a series of town hall meetings across all local government areas of the state, targeting key stakeholders such as traditional rulers, religious leaders, youth representatives, and community influencers.
He noted that the support and collaboration of the NOA would be instrumental in ensuring the success of the initiative.
He further noted that under his leadership, the Ministry underwent a rebranding by changing its name from the Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism to the Ministry of Information and Orientation.
The meeting also had in attendance management officials from NOA, including the Director of Planning, Research and Strategy, Mallam Nura Kobi, Director of Special Duties and State Operations, Mr David Akoji; and Director of Communication and Media, Mallam Bala Musa.
