The Edjemuoyavwe community is currently in a joyous mood as massive road construction begins on Chief Hope Abijor Road and Central Baptist Church Road, facilitated by their representative,Rt Hon.Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu.This development comes shortly after residents received various festive gifts of rice and cash and in some cases cows, have further strengthening the bond between the people and their representative.
The ongoing road projects are of immense economic and social importance to the community , and Oghara kingdom in general.Both roads are highly strategic, as they connect the ever-busy main Edjemuoyavwe market that attracts traders from within and outside the state every four days. The construction includes modern drainage systems, which will significantly improve accessibility to the Teaching Hospital and Delta state polytechnic Otefe and other educational institutions in the area.
Beyond infrastructure development,the projects are already creating job opportunities for the local economy.
Indigenous supplies of sand,rods and gravel are benefiting,while skilled and unskilled labourers-including masons,helpers,and artisans-are actively engaged on site.This indirect employment is expected to continue throughout the project duration,injecting income into households and boosting the overall economy of the kingdom.
Upon completion,the roads are expected to eliminate the perennial gridlock experienced on market days, ensure easier access to healthcare facilities, especially the Teaching Hospital,and provide smoother movement for students, and enhance the overall flow of traffic.
The projects, executed by NDDC and facilitated by our Amazon,Mrs Atake,also link directly to the Oghara Benin federal dual carriage road.
Residents are particularly optimistic that the persistent flooding experienced annually within that axis will become a thing of the past. This road construction follows last year’s installation of solar streetlights along the same routes, a development many describe as a masterpiece worthy of lasting gratitude.
Speaking on a personal capacity as a youth of the community Mr. Okpovwra Stanley described the representative, our Amazon as “God-sent.”
“The rice and cash gifts she gave during the Christmas periods are still sustaining many families. Now we are witnessing long-lasting road projects with proper drainage systems. I can confidently say that the youths and the entire community will repay her with massive support and votes. She has done well, and we are fully committed to supporting her return in 2027.”
Mr. Stanley pray for the Amazon for God's guidance and good health to do her work in God's honour.He also extended heartfelt appreciation to the community leader, Chief Hope Abijor, for the visible and impactful development he has brought to Edjemuoyavwe community and Oghara kingdom, that the projects are "so loud and visible that even the blind can see them".He urged chief Hope to convey the community's gratitude to their representative for all she has done, emphasizing that the people remain deeply thankful.
During an inspection visit to the project sites, the Director of Media, ISGN,Dr Ofa Henry, showered praises on the representative, describing her efforts as a divine assignment.He prayed for God's guidance, wisdom, strength and good health for the representative to successfully complete what he termed a 'God-sent mission''
The Director also used the opportunity to encourage well-meaning adults in the community to register as members of the ruling party in the state and to ensure their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) are valid and up to date.Dr.Ofa emphasized the importance of active political participation ahead of the forthcoming elections,urging residents to be fully prepared to vote for candidates of their choice.
Additionally ,Dr Ofa advised community youths and elders to take collective ownership of the projects by safeguarding construction equipment and ensuring the contractors enjoy a smooth working environment throughout the contract duration.
He said the road and drainage projects are widely regarded as true game -changers for the Oghara Kingdom,poised to significantly boost economic activities, improve social life and enhance the overall stardard of living of the people.
