In keeping with its pledge to complement the urban renewal initiatives of the Oborevwori administration through effective management of waste, the Delta State Waste Management Board has commenced the maintenance of the government dumpsite at Abraka.

The exercise, being supervised by the member representing Delta Central on the Board, Hon. Felix Erhimedafe; is to create enough space for the dumping of refuse by Waste Managers, otherwise known as Private Sector Participants (PSPs) operating in that axis of the state.
Heavy duty equipment was deployed to push back piled up waste in the dumpsite and make it easily accessible to the users, with a broader view to ensuring that waste evacuated from the University town and the environs had a place to be dumped.

The Delta Central member said the maintenance of the dumpsite, as directed by the Chairman of the Board, Hon Matthew Mofe Edema, was not a one-off thing, pointing out the the Agency had been consistent with measures that would add value to the environment, including routine evacuation of waste, zero tolerance for indiscriminate dumping of refuse and illegal dumpsites.

He commended the Abraka Field Office supervisors, Oguori-Okodaso Ejiroghene and Ogbemudia Irikefe;
for their commitment to the realisation of the Board’s mandate and urged residents to cooperate with the PSPs in tackling waste within and around Abraka.

Hon Erhimedafe said other towns and cities in Delta Central were not getting any less attention, declaring that the Delta State Waste Management Board, as presently constituted, would not relent in contributing to the actualization of the MORE Agenda of the Oborevwori administration.

He called on the PSPs to up their game, assuring them of the cooperation and support of the Mode Edema-led Board at all times.
