The ongoing construction of a jetty along Marine Road in Asaba has been described as a significant step toward boosting economic activities and improving livelihoods in the state capital and surrounding communities.
A Marine Engineer, Tony Uche Nwosa, made this assertion while speaking with journalists on the far-reaching benefits of the project. According to him, the development is not only timely but strategic, given Asaba’s proximity to major waterways and its growing population.
Mr. Nwosa explained that once completed, the jetty would serve as a hub for transportation, trade, and fishing activities. He noted that water transport would become more accessible and efficient, easing movement of goods and passengers across riverine areas and reducing pressure on road networks.
He further stated that the project is expected to attract both public and private investments, thereby stimulating economic growth. “A functional jetty will open up the area for commercial activities, create employment opportunities for youths, and enhance the fishing business which many locals depend on,” he said.
The marine engineer also emphasized the potential of the project to transform Asaba into a more vibrant economic corridor, linking it more effectively with neighboring communities and states through inland waterways.
While commending the initiative, Mr. Nwosa urged the construction company handling the project to remain committed to delivering quality work within the stipulated timeframe. He stressed that the success of the project would depend largely on adherence to engineering standards and transparency in execution.
He also called on the Delta State Government to ensure strict supervision of the project to guarantee durability and value for money. According to him, proper oversight would not only ensure timely completion but also prevent substandard work that could undermine the long-term benefits of the jetty.
Residents and stakeholders have continued to express optimism that the project, when completed, will significantly improve economic activities and enhance connectivity in Asaba and its environs.
