A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Chief Thompson Robert Fuoye (JP), has declared his intention to contest for the Burutu Federal Constituency seat in the House of Representatives, promising a “fresh breath” of development and inclusive governance.
Fuoye made the declaration while speaking to journalists at the Asaba International Airport upon his return from Abuja, where he obtained the party’s expression of interest and nomination forms.
He also commended Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Sheriff Oborevwori for promoting internal democracy within the party.
“I am confident because I am close to the people and understand their needs. This is not about a preferred candidate; it is about popularity and grassroots connection,” he said.
Running under the campaign theme, “The Fresh Breath,” Fuoye outlined his priorities, focusing on education and infrastructure.
He decried the absence of higher institutions in the constituency, noting that many youths are forced to travel long distances in pursuit of education.
“One of our major challenges is the lack of government presence, especially in education. We will prioritise attracting a higher institution to our area to encourage our youths and reduce the burden of travel,” he stated.
The APC chieftain also emphasised the need for empowerment programmes, particularly in vocational and technical skills such as electrical wiring, to promote self-reliance among residents.
On infrastructure, Fuoye commended ongoing efforts by the Delta State Government, including the recently approved Toro-Bennett to Ojobo road project, describing it as a critical step toward opening up the area for development.
Addressing security, he acknowledged improvements in Delta State, attributing the relative peace to deliberate youth engagement initiatives by the government.
Speaking further on his prospects, Fuoye referenced zoning considerations within the constituency, arguing that it is the turn of the southern axis to produce the next representative. He noted that he is currently the only APC aspirant from that zone.
“The people have made it clear that power should shift to the South, and I stand as a strong candidate in that regard,” he said.
He called on constituents to support his candidacy, reaffirming his commitment to effective representation and tangible development.
“The fresh breath is here. It is something new, and I believe it will bring progress and benefits to our people,” Fuoye added.
