The Nigerian Army has commissioned a modern recreational park in Ogume, Ndokwa West Local Government Area of Delta State, in a move aimed at strengthening civil-military relations and promoting community development.
The project, known as the Ogume Recreational Park, was executed under the Chief of Army Staff Special Intervention Civil-Military Cooperation initiative.
Commissioning the facility on behalf of the Chief of Army Staff, the General Officer Commanding 6 Division, Major General E.E. Emekah, said the project reflects the Army’s commitment to non-kinetic operations and community engagement.
He described the park as a milestone in improving the welfare of host communities and fostering trust between the military and civilians.
Major General Emekah also commended the initiator of the project, Major General Ugochukwu Goodluck Ogeleka, for his dedication and contribution to community development.
The Army urged residents of Ogume to take ownership of the facility and ensure its proper maintenance.
Also speaking, the Chief of Civil-Military Affairs, Major General M.A. Etsu-Ndagi, emphasized that public cooperation remains vital to the success of military operations, noting that such projects are designed to create lasting impact.
In his remarks, Major General Ogeleka said the park symbolizes unity and social integration, adding that it is designed to serve as a hub for relaxation, sports, and community activities.
The facility features a multi-purpose sports court, children’s playground, event stage, solar-powered lighting, internet connectivity, and green areas.
Representing the Delta State Governor, the Managing Director of DESOPADEC, Chief Festus Ochonogor, praised the Nigerian Army for the initiative, describing it as supportive of the state government’s development agenda.
Also, the member representing Ndokwa West in the State House of Assembly, Hon. Charles Emetulu, noted that the project would boost development and transform Ogume into a semi-urban community.
The event attracted top military officers, community leaders, and residents, who described the project as a landmark development for the area.
