FRESH CRISIS BREWS IN EKPAN COMMUNITY IN UVWIE LOCAL GOVERNMENT
A group of concerned leaders of the other quarters in Ekpan say the tenure elongation is in breach of the constitution of the Community and would spark off fresh crisis.

In a protest march to the Edjeba premises of Delta Broadcasting Service, Warri, some leaders of Ekpan, calliing themselves the Ekpan Stakeholders Group led by Honourable Matthew Emewakeme , Madam Edorke Egbawia and Matthew Edejewhro called on Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to intervene in the matter as it is threatening the fragile peace in Ekpan community.
According to them , the constitution of the Community, drawn by the State Security Council under former Governor, Dr Emmanuel Uduaghan, provides for one tenure leadership, rotated among the nine quarters of Ekpan, to ensure equity, justice, peace and stability.
They said since the faithful implementation of that constitution, the leadership of the Ekpan Community has transited peaceful without the history of violence associated with change of leaders in the Community .
The Ekpan Stakeholders wondered why three months to the end of the tenure of the present EDC Chairman, some Chiefs in Ekpan, working in consonance with certain government officials, have allegedly sworn him in for another tenure in defiance of Ekpan Constitution.
The Ekpan Stakeholders also appealed to the Ovie of Uvwie Kingdom, Abe the first , to wade into the matter, noting that Ekpan has known peace since his reign because of his fatherly wisdom in handling Community conflict
Ekpan, one of Delta's major host of oil facilities, including the NNPCL Refinery was renowned for outbursts of violence and youth restiveness until recent times.
