Ughelli South Political Leader, Oviri Uto, Quits APC

A major political development has jemerged in Delta State following the resignation of the former Chairman of Ughelli South Local Government Area and Political Leader of Ewu Kingdom, Chief Anthony Uto, from the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Chief Uto said his decision to quit the party followed what he described as growing divisions within the APC in Delta State.
According to him, his concerns were heightened after a meeting convened by former Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, at which, he alleged, former members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who defected to the APC were not in the meeting.
He claimed that inquiries revealed that the former PDP members were not regarded as part of the “old APC,” creating what he described as a distinction between the “old APC” and the “new APC” in the state.
Chief Uto said he could not continue in a political arrangement characterized by such divisions, adding that this informed his decision to resign from the party.
His resignation was contained in a letter that has since gone viral on social media.
Although the former council chairman has not disclosed his next political destination, sources close to him said consultations are ongoing and that he, alongside many of his supporters, may soon join another political party.
Political observers believe the resignation of the influential grassroots politician could have implications for the APC in Ughelli South, given his large support base.
There are also speculations that more defections may occur as political realignments intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
However, the APC has yet to issue an official response to Chief Uto resignation.
