The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has expressed condolences to the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) and families of personnel who lost their lives in the tragic aircraft crash in the Igbokoda area of Ondo State.
The Agency also reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the proper observance of the national flag at half-mast in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s declaration of three days of national mourning.
In a condolence message, the Director-General of NOA, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, described the incident as a painful loss to the nation, saying the fallen personnel demonstrated courage, discipline, patriotism and unwavering commitment to national service.
According to him, their sacrifice in the service of Nigeria will not be forgotten, stressing that the nation owes them a debt of honour and remembrance.
Issa-Onilu said the Agency would intensify public enlightenment on the proper observance of the national flag during the mourning period, in keeping with the President’s directive.
He noted that the Nigerian flag remained a powerful symbol of the nation’s sovereignty, unity and shared identity, urging Nigerians to observe the mourning period with dignity and respect for the fallen officers.
The NOA Director-General commiserated with the Chief of the Air Staff, officers and personnel of the Nigerian Air Force, assuring the military of the Agency’s solidarity at a difficult moment.
He also extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased, acknowledging the pain and grief associated with losing loved ones who were serving the country.
Issa-Onilu urged Nigerians to use the period of mourning to reflect on the sacrifices of members of the Armed Forces and the collective responsibility of citizens to promote patriotism, national unity and respect for Nigeria’s national symbols.
He prayed for the peaceful repose of the souls of the departed personnel and for God to grant their families, colleagues and the entire Nigerian Air Force the strength and fortitude to bear the loss.
The NOA, he reaffirmed, remains committed to promoting national values, civic responsibility and respect for Nigeria’s national symbols across the country.
