 The state Commissioner for environment, Chief Godspower Asiuwhu has called on Deltans to desist from Indiscriminate bush burning and embrace good sanitary habit to avoid outbreak of epidemic.

The Commissioner who was speaking with Newsmen in his office in Asaba on the negative impact of bursh burning and Indiscriminate dumping of waste especially at the yuletide season and hammer time said Senator Ifeanyi Okowa led administration will continued to ensure a comfortable and sustainable environment for Deltans and residents during the Yuletide.

He explained that the act of Indiscriminate bush burning Leds to lose of lives, properties and farm products as well as economic crops.

The Commissioner said Indiscriminate bush burning has caused destruction of the soil, desert encroachment and deforestation,stressing that sanitation was fundamental building block in prevention of disease outbreak.

Chief Asiuwhu urged Deltans to learn how to own their environment by keeping it clean at all times in order to enjoy sound health.

He said as part of efforts of the state government to promote a clean,safe, healthy and sustainable environment, the ministry of environment had embarked on disaster reduction measures like vegetation control,desiltation of drains, fumigation, opening of natural water ways and continues sensitisation.

The Commissioner encouraged Deltans to embark on act of planting of trees within their neighborhood to give aesthetics to the environment and also serve as wind breaker, prevent erosion and reduce effect of green house gas emissions to protect the climate.
