Former Vice President and Presidential Candidate of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has lauded Governor Ifeanyi Okowa for his massive contributions to the growth and development of tourism in the country.
Alhaji Atiku gave the commendation in Asaba while inaugurating Maryam Babangida Leisure Park andDelta Film Village built by the Governor Okowa led administration.
He said that the PDP government would partner the creative industry to harness potentials inherent in it, and urged stakeholders to support the party in the coming elections.
He assured the leadership and members of the creative industry that their best partner in the development and advancement of the industry was a PDP-led government pointing out that if elected he would help them access the 100 billion naira that would be available for the promotion of the creative industry.
He congratulated the government and people of Delta State for being pacesetters in the development of the creative industry.
Earlier, Governor Okowa said that the Leisure Park which had facilities for recreation and a zoo, with different species of animals, was named Mariam Babangida Leisure Park; in recognition of her contributions to Asaba community and the society.
He commended Nollywood and the creative industry for their inputs leading to the construction of a Film Village alongside the Leisure Park and Zoo, adding that Delta had become the next tourism destination in the country.
In his remarks,the son of Late Maryam Babangida Mr Mohammed Babangida thanked the state government for the honour and recognition of their mother, adding that her legacies would continue to live long after her passing.
Creative industry stakeholders including Zeb Ejiro, Tony Akposheri, Ali Baba; Francis Agoda and others expressed appreciation to Governor Okowa for giving them an edifice to practice their profession.
The leisure park has an administrative building,a Restaurant, Observation tower, Indoor games, Utility building,Changing rooms,Conveniences.
The park also has Giant Wheel,
Carousel,Jumbo ride,Flying octopus, European ride,Basket ball court, Volley ball court,Slam dunk, Archery game,
Children’s play area while the zoo has different animals and reptiles including giant lions..
The film village has an Administrative building and Amphitheatre, a Guest house,a Clinic,Staff Quarters, Hostel, eatery and shops, Maintenance workshop, Village/forest section with mud houses for typical African village setting.
