The Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, has resolved to commit to the August 19, 2023 terminal date within which to address the issues around the petroleum price hike, given the assurances of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the National Assembly.
The resolution is contained in a communique issued at the end of the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the Congress and signed by its President, Comrade Joe Ajaero and General Secretary, Comrade Emmanuel Ugboaja.
NEC-in-session also resolved to support and affirm the decision to suspend further execution of the nationwide mass protest, and to maintain the vigilance needed to hold government accountable for its assurances and governance in general.
The National Executive Committee, (NEC), at the meeting, further resolved to go on total strike across the country any day labour leaders were summoned by the Federal Government through the National Industrial Court of Nigeria (NICN) and demanded the immediate withdrawal of what it termed litigious terrorism by the Federal Ministry of Justice on or before Friday, 11th August, 2023, failing which a nationwide strike would commence on 14th August, 2023.
While commending the national leadership and all the state officers for the effective coordination of Wednesday’s protest, NEC-in-session urged all affiliates, State Councils and Civil Society allies of the Congress to stay further action and remain focused and eternally vigil
ant.
