SAY NO TO DRUG ABUSE

Youths have been admonished to stay away from drug abuse as it was a destroyer  of life.

The Chairperson of the Delta State Drug Control Committee,Mrs.Helen Ifeoma Orie gave the admonition in Asaba while on sensitization walk along major streets of Asaba, Delta State to mark the United Nations Day against Drug Abuse.



The Chairperson accompanied by Officials of Drug Law Enforcement Agency,NDLEA, Nigerian Police Force,Road Safety, Actors Guild of Nigeria, and other bodies, said drug abuse is destructive, adding that it was better to stay away from it.



She disclosed that the State Government decided to inaugurate the drug control committee in order to reach out to youths and those engaged in drug abuse.

Mrs.Orie said the Committee had been to schools, public places, markets and Churches to carry out sensitization  in order to reduce the number of youths and individuals into drug abuse.



The Committee Chairperson explained that while the Federal Government is into drug supply reduction, the State concentrated on drug demand reduction.

Mrs.Orie commended the State Government for the job creation and empowerment youths which has helped in reducing unemployment and drug abuse.



The State secretary Delta State Drug Control Committee,Mr.Silas Omobude, said it has been difficult in fighting drug abuse, saying that it requires collaboration with the parents, schools and individuals to reduce drug abuse.



Mr.Omobude who is also the Assistant State Commander, NDLEA,advised people to refrain from drug abuse as it will not lead them to success in life.



The Chairman Actors Guild, Mr.Emma Onyemeziem said in the moving industry, they always showcase solutions to any circumstances in life, stressing that whatever they do was for the general interest.

He said the Actors Guild is in full support of the fight against drug abuse.
