DELTANS have been charged to take the information on the outbreak of cholera pandemic seriously as the death records is going higher every day.
The State Commissioner for Secondary Education, Mrs. Rosemary Ezewu, gave the charge at the Institute of Continuing Education, Asaba, Delta State.
The Commissioner, represented by the state Board Chairman, Honourable,Florence Omoni Johnson, while addressing the students of ICE, said there was need for sensitization in order to prevent the spread of the disease.
She said the disease is contergious and the students need to be aware of the seriousness in order to save lives.
Mrs.Ezewu advised the children to always wash their hands after going to toilet, before eating and should take care of what they eat and drink, including fruits.
She commended Governor Sheriff OBOREVWORI for creating the enabling Environment for the school to progress.
The Zonal Head, ICE, Asaba, Mrs.Regina Okoro, who is the Principal of the school and the zonal head, commended the Board Chairman and members for the opportunity given to the teachers and students as the sensitization was timely.
She said the children had been educated on the dangers of the cholera pandemic outbreak, stressing that they will also spread the message to their homes, and friends outside the school.
The resource person who is also the Head, Department of Physical and Health Education, ICE, Asaba, Mrs Peters Tessy Awele, lectured the students on the rudiments of hand washing, and preparation of oral rehydration therapy.
She explained that washing of hands, foods, and boiling and drinking of fresh water is imperative to mitigate the impact of the rampaging cholera outbreak and possible eradication.
