The State Government has reaffirmed it's commitments in eradicating drug abuse and illicit trafficking in the State.
Governor Sheriff OBOREVWORI stated this during this year's International Day of drug abuse and illicit trafficking with a theme, The Evidence is Clear,Investing in Prevention,held at the Government House Asaba.
Governor OBOREVWORI represented by the Commissioner for Information Dr.Ifeanyi Osuoza, said Government was committed to checkmate drug abuse through a comprehensive preventive Programmes targeted to all segment of the society.
He stated that preventive measures such as campaigns has been put in place to reduce drug abuse and illicit trafficking to the barest minimum.
Governor OBOREVWORI commended the Delta State Drug Control Committee efforts in reaching out to the people, especially the youths as it will lololol go along way in reducing drug abuse and illicit trafficking in the State.
In a remark, the wife of the State Governor Deaconess Tobori OBOREVWORI represented by the wife of the chief of Staff Government House, Princess Ewuma Erijo called for the education of the teachers and children with the assistance of parents to checkmate the drug abuse and illicit trafficking which has become a danger to the society.
The State Commissioner for Health Dr.Joseph Onojoame, represented by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry,Dr.Philomina Okewoh said drug abuse is a universal problems and has become more complex than as it used to be.
He advocated for urgent intervention through sensitization, enlightenment and cooperation by people to reduce the effects of drug abuse and illicit trafficking.
Giving the over view of the challenges of the drug abuse, the State Commander, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA,Mr.Abubakar Wada said the international Day against Drug abuse and illicit trafficking was to draw the attention of the people in combating illicit trafficking and drug abuse.
He commended the Delta State Government in setting up the Delta State Drug Control Committee as it will go along way to fight drug abuse.
At the event, other law enforcement Agents, including the state Police Commissioner, the state Controller of Correctional facilities among others were represented.
Highlights of the occasion was a lecture presented by the officials of NDLEA, and drama presentation.
