The commissioner for Environment Chief Godspower Asiuwhu, Commissioner for Oil and Gas Prince. Emma Amgbaduba, Commissioner for Special Duties,Johnbull Edema, accompanied by the Ika North East Local Government Chairman,Hon.Victor Eboka and professionals from the ministries,has commenced the investigations surrounding the health challenges and deaths in the Marymount college Agbor allegedly caused by the gas emissions from the Handeskia Gas plant in Agbor earlier sealed by Delta State Government
The investigation which was a follow up on the first closure of the gas plant to assatain the immediate and remote causes of the health challenges took the investigation crew to the school and it's environs for site seeing.
The commissioner for Oil and Gas, Prince Emma Amgbaduba, said they were at the gas plant to get the accurate information possible that could lead to the negative information from the the school and people around the gas plant.
He explained that the state government was not unaware of the challenges faced by the gas plant, stressing that human life first.
The investigation lead to the measurements of the distance from the gas plant to the Marymount college and residential homes around the gas plant.
A representative of the Marymount college, Sister.Joy-Gertrude Okonkwo,explained that for a very long time the gas plant was located to the area, the students have been complaining of health challenges and recently led to the death of some of the students.
She said the students complained that when the gas tanker truck was discharging, they always have defficulty in breathing which have led to choking and vomitting by students.
The investigation continues till final results will be released.
