COMMUNIQUÉ ISSUED AT THE END OF THE MONTHLY CONGRESS OF ISOKO CHAPEL OF THE NIGERIA UNION OF JOURNALISTS (NUJ), HELD AT THE PRESS CENTRE, NO. 207 OGBUMUDIA ROAD, OLEH ON SUNDAY, OCTOBER 29, 2023.
Congress, after deliberating on the state of the Union, immediate practicing environment and the State, arrived at the following:
1. Congress-in-Session, once again congratulates the new NUJ state council leadership under Deacon Churchill Oyowe and urge him to breathe a new lease of life into the Union by taking pragmatic steps to change the narratives through a multifaceted repositioning process to regain the lost glory in accordance with their campaign promises.
2. Congress-in-Session acknowledge with thanks the appointment of our past Chairman and Leader, Comrade Emmanuel Ekebe as an ex- officio and member of the State Working Committee (SWC), also in fulfilment of the promise made during the campaign, for the last state council election.
3. Congress-in-Session urge the State Council to break from the past by ensuring that all Chapels across the state are given their fair dues and as well note that though all members pay the same annual professional and practicing fees, special attention should be paid to those like Isoko Chapel and others who have to travel far distances to get to Asaba for Union and professional activities.
4. Congress also expressed concerns over the deplorable state of the Ogbemudia Road, Oleh, particularly the section very close to the NUJ Press Centre. We appeal to the relevant authorities to quickly fix the the bad portion to save the road users from the terrible nightmare.
5. Congress-in-Session notes the expidited work going on at the Isoko section of the Ughelli-Asaba Highway and commends the state government for rising up to the occasion on this all important road that has survived 3 successive state governments. We also appreciate the constant monitoring of the projects by the relevant government organs to ensure its speedy completion with particular attention to the Oleh roundabout spur to Oleh-Uzere-Emede junction.
6. Congress, also decried and expressed concern over the dilapidated Ozoro Library in Ekwerigbe Primary School, Ozoro and appeal strongly to the state government to intervene in the construction of an Ultra Modern Library and it's equipment to enhance educational development.
7. In same vein, Congress also expressed concerns over the reckless abandonment of Ozoro Internal Road Networks contracts awarded by DESOPADEC. We appeal to the state government to quickly intervene to complete the roads to save the road users from the trauma and terrible experience.
8. Similarly, Congress calls on the state government to do the needful by fixing the several failed portions of the Iyede-Olomoro-Emede-Oleh road.
