EDO state NUJ Chairman calls for peace in the forthcoming Governorship Election

As the Edo 2024 Governorship election draws nearer, the chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Edo state council, Comrade Festus Alenkhe has called for peace and understanding before, during and after the election.

In an Easter message weekend in Benin City, Comrade Alenkhe appealed to politicians to play by electioneering rules.

Ahead of the September 21 governorship election, the Edo NUJ chairman called on journalists in the state to reject news reports that will throw the state into crisis and tension but ensure continuous balanced reportage at all times.

He said that Easter celebration heralds the joyous culmination of Easter story, Jesus resurrection from the dead as it is a day of jubilation and triumph, symbolizing victory over sin and death.

While wishing and praying for Edo people to experience the beauty of God's Grace and the joy of Jesús Christ's resurrection, he remarked that Good Friday and Easter Sunday are sacred days marked by reflection, remembrance and celebrations encapsulating the core tenets of the Christian faith.

Comrade Alenkhe said: "Easter celebration signifies the resurrection of Jesus christ who confirmed that "It is finished", an indication that all our intending pains, trouble and problems have ended at the cross of crucifixion."

"Easter celebration heralds the joyous culmination of Easter story, Jesus resurrection from the dead as it is a day of jubilation and triumph, symbolizing victory over sin and death. Jesus resurrection offers believers the promise of new life, hope and eternal salvation
