BAN ON METAL SCRAP SCAVENGING ( IRON CONDEMN) BY DELTA GOVERNMENT, WELCOME DEVELOPMENT, AFFIRMS OKUNBOR.
An Asaba based business tycoon, Chief Alex Okunbor, has described the recent outright ban by the State Government , on the activities of metal scrap scavengers, popularly called "iron condemn", as a "welcome development".
He is of the view that the government,s sledge hammer will reduce criminal activities around the Asaba capital territory , to an appreciable level.
Speaking on sundry topical issues of concern recently , the Owa Alero in lka North East , born Okunbor , noted that a lot of crimes have been committed under the guise of metal scrap scavenging by it's operators who sniff around homes and business premises purporting to look for scraps.
The business mogul recalled a trip he made to Warri and said on the way , one early morning ,"l saw a scrap metal scavenge carrying a generator . That generator must have been stolen in the course of their nefarious activities hiding under the cover of iron condemn business".
Chief Alex Okunbor therefore commended the state government for the bold step , noting that even in most parts of the north where these people come from, using Kano and Maiduguri as examples, metal scrap scavenging is prohibited.
On insecurity in lka land , Chief Okunbor commended the recent move of the Governor Oborevwori administration for mobilizing security agencies such as the army and local vigilante among others , to comb the bushes in lka land , particularly along the corridors of the railway line crossing the area, a development that Led to the apprehension of many undesirable elements.
While stating that one year in office is not reasonable to assess Governor Oborevwori , Chief Alex Okunbor however commended the Governor for the ongoing multi billion naira storm water drainage projects ongoing in lka land , stating too that the contract awarded to Julius Berger by the Governor to construct flyovers and clover leafs around the Effurun and Warri axis to not only beautify the area but also ease traffic gridlock for motorists and commuters alike , in addition to other road infrastructure and educational projects across the state , was an indication that the Governor is determined to spread democratic dividends to all nooks and cranny.
He however advised Governor Oborevwori to create the enabling environment for the private sector to come in and put shuttle buses on the streets of Asaba in order to cushion it's announced ban on motorcycle transport , popularly called "okada", within the Asaba capital territory.
