TRANSPORT COMMISSIONER CHARGES DESTMA OFFICERS TO OPERATE WITH CIVILITY

Delta State Transport Commissioner Mr Onoriode Agofure has called on personnel of Delta State Traffic Management Authority (DESTMA) to operate with caution.
Agofure made the call, when he addressed the staff before the commencement of their enforcement activities across the State.
The Commissioner made it clear that as far there's enforcement of road traffic offences,"there would be some resistance from some erring Motorists,but be patient in handling traffic offences with human face,as well as displaying maturity and temperance in the face of provocation".
Agofure, equally advised the officers not to engage in physical altercation,but to always have evidence of offences committed by Motorists with the use of their body cam.
He further stressed that "there should be a symbiotic relationship with the police and other security sister agencies as you carry out your official duties".
The Commissioner charged Motorists and other road users to be more safety conscious,by observing road signs,as well as to obey traffic Rules and Regulations in order to avoid road crashes that could lead to loss of lives and sometimes permanent disability.
He further enjoined Motorists and other road users to ensure that their vehicles were road worthy,adding that both private and Commercial vehicles were vulnerable to road crashes.
Agofure appealed to Motorists not to attack DESTMA Officers,in the discharge of their official duties,but "you can seek redress by reporting erring officers to the ministry of Transport,in cases of abuse of office".
The Commissioner further stressed that Motorists are to ensure they make use of their seat belts,obey traffic lights and avoid driving against traffic (route violation) amongst other road traffic offences,such as driving without drivers licence and expired Vehicle documents.
He disclosed that presently,there was a mobile and revenue court that prosecutes road traffic offenders at any given time.
