DELTA STATE NDLEA CHASES DRUG DEALERS OUT OF THE STATE.
In commemoration of the United Nations Day against Drug Abuse and illicit Trafficking, the Delta State Command, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, stressed the need for the supply and demand reduction of drugs.
The State Commander,Mr.Abubakar Wada, who stated this in a press briefing in his office at OGWASHI-UKU, said the Command has seized kilograms and litres of illicit drugs in a bid to checkmate the supply and distribution drugs.
The theme, for this year according to Mr.Wada is,The Evidence is Clear,Invest in Prevention, adding that a total of eighty five hectares of cannabis sativa farms had been destroyed within one year.
Mr.Wada said a total of forty three schools across the state were sensitized on the danger of drug abuse while war against Drug Abuse clubs has been established in sixty eight secondary schools across the senatorial zones to sustain sensitization and upgrade enlightenment.
He revealed that the drug demand reduction unit of the command from June 2023 to date has counselled a total of six hundred and thirty drug dependant persons,while four hundred and fifty five are male and one hundred and seventy five are female.
The Commander said a total of eleven drug dependent persons were admitted for rehabilitation for the period under review, and have been discharged after a successful rehabilitation and reintegration into the society, while three are still under rehabilitation at the center.
He solicited for support, co-operation and partnership of the public for effective preventive drug demand and supply to checkmate drug abuse in the State.
Mr. Wada enumerated the challenges of the Command to include lack of operational vehicles and relocation of the Command office to the state Capital,Asaba.
