Cattle grazing in Umuchime Ogume Community, Ndokwa West Local Government Arca

a prohibited with immediate effect.

This was made known by the Okpala-Uku of Umuchime Ogume, Okwa Gold Enukegu

who spoke through the spokesman of the conmunity Development Committee (CDC

Chief Monday Uzoka in a meeting which was atten ded by the indigenes of the communtty.

Team of Delta Sate Livestock management committee and representatives of Fulani

herdsmen was convened to find a lasting solution to the Fulani herdsmen unlawful

activities in the Area

Narrating to the odeal at the Okpaluku's palace, Chief Uzoka lamented that their

farm lands were forcefully taken over by the herdsmen, uprooted farm crops to feed cows

thereby making life unbearable for them.

He maintained that Umuchime Ogume never in anyway or day negotiated or gave piece of

land to Fulani herdsmen for grazing.

While explaining that since the herdsmen have taken the farm land of the people who are

basically farmers, destroyed their crops, Chief Uzoka implored the herdsmen not to pay

any damage for the crops or compensation but they should vacate their bush.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the Community Development Committee (CDC) Comr.

Innocent Uzoka and the financial Secretary, Hon. Prince Oliseji described the activities of

the Fulani herdsmen as damagerous, menacing and worrisome adding that if the excess of

the herders were curtailed the means of the livelihood of the people would be eroded.

In his remark, the member representing Delta North in the state livestock Management

Committee, Mr. Matthew Ujene commended the Community for not taking laws into their

hands noting that for the couple of years he has been following the events through

interactions with the some of the leaders of the community.

Responding on behalf of the representatives of Fulani herdsmen in the meeting, Bashiru

Damisa who apologized on the behalf of the herders appealed to the community to give

them one week to enable them relay the message to their people to find a lasting solution.

The highlights of the meeting were ereation of signposts that reads. "No more grazing in

this land, Umuchime Ogume land forbids cow", at the various boundaries with the

neigbouring communities in the area.
